The arabian word Tabgha means "place of the seven springs". It determinates the place where the wonder of the multiplication of the fishes and the loaves by Jesus occured. The church erected to remember this wonder was destroyed and build up again several times. The present church was opened in 1982. The mosaics remaining from the antique, show geometric forms as well as various pictures of plants and animals from the Nile delta region. Also a nileometer, which was used to measure the water hight can be seen. Obviously the artist must have been very familiar with the Nile area.
