| The Ahmed Jezzar Mosque is the largest of the four mosques of Akko and the third largest in Israel. It was built in 1781 by ruler Ahmed Jezzar in a tukish rococo style. The entrance side is covered with gorgeous mosaics. In front of the entrance there is a ceremonial cleaning fountain. Its copper roof is carried by graceful coloums. The inner room of the mosque is kept in white, brown and blue colours. | Below the mosque is a cistern, most likely build by the
crusadors to ensure water supply during besiegements. In a small coupled building next to the mosque the corpus of Ahmed Jezzar and its follower Seuleiman are being kept. |
