Attica, Hydra and Macedonia

The ten best pictures
Makedonischer Stern

Attika - Cape Sounion

There is an ancient temple at Cape Sounion devoted to Poseidon. But the god of sea looses the battle of popularity every day when the god of sun sets down.
Hydra

The car free island Hydra located in the Saronian gulf is a popular weekend and summer resort for the rich Athenians. It is hopeless to find vacation in high season.
Hydra

Hydra might be overcrowded in high season but it is still an incredibly nice town. A bit off the fuzz down in the harbour area, you can have nice walks through picturesk alleys.
Attika - Athens: Mount Likabittus

A concrete monster during daytime, Athens shows his romantic side at night.
Macedonia - Vergina

Okay, this is not a photo I took but a picture postcard. However the golden treasures from the macedonian toombs exhibited at the museum of Vergina are unique and picture taking forbidden.
Thessalia - Meteora

There are no words in human tongues to discribe the unique beauty adequately. It is easy to understand why the monks feel closer to god at Meteora.
Thessalia - Meteora

Nowadays the monastries are easy to acceess by roads and stairs. One can not imagine the efforts necessary to erect the buildings.
Makedonia - Chalkidiki: Arnea

At the central square of the mountain village Arnea there is a tree giving birth to a sping. Here young and old meet for a chat. Greek village life.
Makedonia - Mount Olympus

The Mount Olympus, residence of the ancient Greek gods, thanks to modern roads, today is easy to access but for milleniums this was impossible. What is left is the beauty of its nature.
Makedonia - Mount Olympus

Countless small chappels are standing along the streets of Greece. Mosty they were erected to remind a beloved dead traffic victim. Thus they are a monument as well as an inofficial traffic sign. Some of them however - like the one on the picture on Mount Olympus - are just donations to honer a specific holy person.
