| What to do on a rainy day in New York when you're only
a few days in town and don't want to miss anything? Staying in the hotel
room? No way. Buy yourself an umbrella (suddenly sold everywhere) and
walk down 5th Avenue once more. Shop till you drop or visit New York Public Libary at 42nd street for example. It is the second largest libary of the states just after the congress libary in Washington DC. Regardless of it's name the Public Libary is a privately owned institute which however receives more than half of its budget of the public. The libary was build froom 1897 to 1911 of Vermont marble. On second floor you'll find the large reading hall with 550 seats. Here you can get any book out of the stock of 9 millions within minutes. Another thing you can do is visiting the NBC-Studios in the Rockefeller Center. But be aware that you have to buy the tickets in advance. You can even see one of the shows however it is hard to get tickets for the popular ones. Especially on a rainy day it is worth to visit Trump Tower because its atrium has got a glass roof and it ist somehow interesting to watch the water flowing down in streams. But that does not mean you should skip Trum Tower on a sunny day. The 202 meters an 68 floors high building had been build by Der Scutt and is named after Donald Trump. The atrium is definetly the most beautiful of all New York Buildings. For floor and walls Breccia marble from Italy had been used which is coloured in a mixture of peach and orange. An artificial waterfall fall 60 meters deep. You find a lot of shops, restaurants and cafes. And by the way in case you like to spent some money: The penthouse had been sold for 10 Million US$. If this is just a little bit to much maybe you'll find something less expensive at Tiffany's which is practically next door. Unfortunately it is not allowed to take pictures inside so I can't show you any pictures but they will let you in to let you see the precious jewellery yourself even when you look like an old saoky spunge. If Tiffany's still to expensive the the Warner Bros. Studio will be perfect for you. It's just like any other Warner Bros. Store anywhere but after all those exclusive shops you definetly need something cheaper and more ordinary to look at. And if you want something free then read the Gotham Times outside on the building. Finish your shopping tour at nearby bloomingdales. I've never seen so many (and boring) ties on onne sight. And I hope all business men in New York will forgive me, that's just how they look like. Boring suits, shoes and ties regardless how expensive and proper the might be. |
