Depending on your departure and destination airport,
flights from Germany to Australia usually take about 20 to 24 hours.
This is already long enough but because our first destination was Cairns
we had to change the aircraft in Bangkok. To our common consent this
plane was quite empty but on its way to Cairns it stopped at every single
airport being large enough to land. At least that way we got a small
glance of Singapore, Darwin and Townsville until we finally left the
plane in Cairns after 27 hours. Luckily enough it was late at night when we arrived. Therefore we just slept a bit longer next morning and we were mostly spared of the notorious jet-lag. With wise foresight we booked our hotel from Germany in advance. Regarding our accommodation we did choose the hotel vouchers of the Flag-Inn chain. Because there were three of us we always took a two-bed-room equipped with an extra bed. That was nowhere a problem and did cost us just 5 to 10 Dollars extra. The whole price divided by three wasn't more expensive than a youth hostel. Of course this might have changed since then. We never had any problems with our accommodation at Flag-Inn. All the hotels are to be recommended. The pre-booked 2+1 arrangement gave us a hole suite at Lake-Central-Lodge in Cairns. Four beds in a two room apartment even with a kitchen. Very princely. We also highly recommend the hotel's restaurant "A garden affair". Just remember: "platter" is a synonym for "too much to be eaten". |
